I live in Minnesota and I am completely new to the lawn care stuff. I have called TruGreen, Scott and some local lawn care providers. Their application process and periods are pretty much same. But, I want to know what are the chemicals that we should avoid to have a good result in future as well as to have a good environment.

I have never personally hired anyone to apply chemicals to my lawn, as I think it is bad in the long run for the yard, soil, and the environment.

However, I do work with a few people that have used ChemLawn, TruGreen, and Scott. Everyone of them had problems with TruGreen. I have only heard good things about Scott.

I still recommend good old fashioned weed pulling and to apply grass seed.
