Coal is very valuble and thus other players will just get coal instead of you due to the equipment and mining lvl. You should fish, it makes a lot if you trade it in the general store especially cooked fish.

coal is good so are several other high ticket items like cowhides(100 each), iron ore sells good(130-150 each), big bones(300 each), But the best to get your smithing up real high so you can make rune a full rune about 230k then you are making money!!
