If you read.... post 9/11 the speaker of the house is 3rd in line for the presidency, making that person in worst-cases scenarios quite important. In order to protect that person, they want them to be capable of flying from DC to their home state without stopping. These ideas were drawn up WAAAAY before Pelosi became speaker, and so when she became speaker it's only fair to apply the rules to her. The White House defended her, saying that is the protocol that was established. As far as I know Pelosi had little choice in the matter. While I am a conservative, I feel there is nothing wrong with the situation.

No the normal jet for speaker of the house is a G3. This jet can fly coast to coast no problem. http://www.aircharternetwork.com/pages/aircraft/gulfstream_3_int_large.html
distance coast to coast is about 2500 miles this jet has a range of well more than that.
Nancy however wants a jumbo jet that uses 3-4 times as much fuel.

You need to be fair. It wasn't her idea to get her own plane. It was the president's idea. And, if I recall the outcome correctly, she turned it down and will be flying on a commercial airliner.

they use kerosene. More economical and less polluting.
