Some of the same things, of course. Like mathematics and science, which are VERY important subjects in China. But language classes would be quite different. Chinese students would study Chinese history rather than American History. And probably most Chinese children are taught English, whereas American children are not necessarily taught a second language of any kind in the early school years. Chinese students are also taught principals of Communism, as well as given instruction in moral principals, which in America is usually left up to parents or to religious instruction.

Who said China just educates the elite? I've lived in China for seven years and am involved in the education system with the Chinese government, China provides equal education opportunities to its people. People are not allowed to have guns, therefore there are no guns in schools.. Primary school and elementary school children go to middle school campuses sponsored by the government (even in very poor areas) and sharpen their pencils with single edge razors without fear of being arrested, without the requirement of metal detectors and fear of getting stabbed by peers.

You really think the USA educates everyone? When was the last time you visited an inner city school in New York Los Angeles or Chicago? (without ducking gunfire and navigating drug traffic?)

Chinese leaders are engineers, United States leaders are lawyers.. By nature.. Engineers build.. lawyers prepare for the worst..

This simple yet fundemental diference in our leadership styles says alot about how each country aproaches its education marks..

Many middle schools in China are setup like college campuses.. A recent statistic suggests that Chinese parents are willing to spend up to 80% of their income on their childrens education...

The state of the United States Education system is frighteningly dysfunctional.. Whether you are rich or poor in China, you still have to pass the college entrance examination..

Here in the USA, we're building daycares in our high schools.
The apathy of the herds are supporting the foolish "no child left behind"

It will take generations for our youth to catch up, but thats only on the premise that our country would take steps to alter our countries educational goals in a positive direction.. I don't ever see this happening. Education is the first cut on any budget.. and Jerry Springer advertising revenue is always improving..

Ever wonder why there are so many movies being redone? Music being redone? Very little original thought is going into the act of mainstream creation.. Fewer jobs, a shrinking job base and corrupt legal system are throwing evermore of our population to the bottom.

If you want to compare the United States Education System with China you're likely to find more similarity between an Orange and an Orangutan.

Good luck with that!

The difference between China and the US is that here in the US we educate everyone. However, China only educates the elite. Because of that, China is able to teach the higher and more advanced curriculum. This is also why we see so many bright and talented individuals coming from there. (Students that are considered not smart or low achievers in the US aren't even allowed to go to school in China). Since we have such a variety of ability levels, it is much more difficult to educate students and compete with other countries who don't have the variety. I think it is time we stop trying to compete with other countries. We are fighting a losing battle. We should be concentrating on educating our children and not worrying so much about whether they are as good or better as children in other countries.

Almost ANY high school in the world teaches a more comprehensive curriculum than a high school in the US. There are standardized tests in certain classes/grades and if you don't make it, you lose a year. Nobody pushes you through high school like in America. So, they learn MORE than the average American kid (sciences particularly).
