Set up a user account for all users. Each will have his/her own settings. Put a password on the account and on the screensaver so if you walk away, anyone else will have to enter a password to bring the PC out of standby.

Set a Password to Log on

am running XP Pro on a desktop. Is there any way I can set a password so that when the system is trying to boot up the user is prompted for a password? I know there is a password in the (CMOS) setup, but what setting would do what I need?

How about the logon password? If you aren't seeing the logon password, configure Windows XP to prompt for one: Click Start, Control Panel and then double-click User Accounts. Click Change the Way Users Log On or Off. Then select the Use the Welcome Screen for Fast and Easy Logon check box. If you want to prompt for a password before Windows XP starts, I don't have a solution.

If you have concerns, set a password on the screensaver for access after coming out of standby:

Right-cl on a blank space on the desktop
cl Properties
cl Screensaver
cl Advanced
cl Prompt for password when computer goes off standby
