If you're talking about overdraft charges, banks usually will let you have 1 pardon a year. Just call them and talk to a customer service rep, make up some sob story about why you overdrafted and they might credit you back an overdraft charge or two. I would start with the national 800 number for your bank and if you have no luck, then go to your local branch.

Firstly you need to find out exactly how much you are owed and to how far back it goes. If its more than 7 yrs ago forget it. Write out a letter to your banks customer complaints department explaining that you wish to reclaim your charges. They have to reply to you within 31 days either to tell you that they are dealing with it or to answer in full.

I suggest - as there is a lot you need to be aware of - is going to google and checking out your right to reclaim your bank charges back. Just simply type in "Reclaim Bank Charges"

You can get every penny back from charges you've had to pay over the last six years. You write to the manager of your branch and they will refer it to head office.

Check out penaltychargesforum.com for templates of letters to send.
