every version of Windows came with what it called Character Set or (Character Map), also almost all MS Word and other word processor (WordPerfect, etc..) do have one too, and you just know how to get there. I'll show you the common place to get to it.
For Windows: Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools, Character Map is in the list, just click on it, and have fun.
For word processor, look under Edit or Insert.
