CC ... The big question is this: Will the West confront Iran for its nuclear plans (whatever they may be) and their assertion that Israel should be wiped off the face of the Earth?

Iran's nuclear ambitions — whether they be for nuclear power plants or for making nuclear weapons — are hard to accept because:

1 - Iran's present government seems to hate the U.S.
2 - Iran is apparently lending aid to insurgents in Iraq.
3 - As I mentioned, Iran's president has expressed his desire that Israel be eliminated.
4 - Iran seems to be very "buddy-buddy" with North Korea, another great foe of the U.S. and the free world.
5 - A destabilized Middle East is likely to discupt the flow of energy (oil) to OPEC's customers. (See my link below)

The question may have been asked already, but the possible consequences from neglecting the Iran issue have many serious and far-reaching ramifications. Each of these is worth discussing.

The manner in which the administration propagandized the justification for an all out, rushed, unprovoked, military strike against Iraq.
Sadam was problematic and Iraq was strategically important both by location and resource but the administrations judgment in dealing with Sadam astronomically damaged the viability of our efforts in the region to procure a strategic foot hold in the middle East , combat terrorism, and procure oil resources each and every point.
One of the most dramatic blunders in the entire history of humane civilization and fertile ground for an excellent A+ treatise providing of course your Prof. isn't a died in the wool Neo con ideologist. Good luck and happy writing.

Do a paper on how the economy in Iraq compares to the economy of the remaining middle east Countries. And compare it to the economy before the war.

I read an artical on line that said Iraqi's were exporting food before the invasion, now they are being fed imported junk food.
