I think in is a matter of opinion some people like it and some don't. No it does not make you better or worse at a job but in some fields it may pose a health concern. My husband has a long goatee but he is self employed and is no a factor but in other circumstances he would probably not be able to wear it.If certain companies policies are not to your approval then I bet there is a company out there that would be a better fit for you.Good luck.

It's not an assumption that you are unclean. The problem is that when the beard is obviously not kept trimmed, that IS untidy. Also, beard hair can easily fall into food you are preparing, and wearing a net over the beard looks sloppy.
I have a goatee myself, but it's neatly trimmed and my cheeks are clean-shaved. Not because I feel a need to be "kissing up to the man," but because I do want to kiss my wife.

If you are going to be serving the public, then the employer must consider whether or not the public will want you to wait on them. I really don't want someone who looks like they've been living in a box to represent me in court, for example. Facial hair, if kept trimmed, looks fine on some people but if it's all bushy and unkempt, you start wondering if there's food in there. It's just a fact of life, groomed people look cleaner and look like they care. If you look like you just rolled out of bed, people in the professional world (where the money is....) will not take you seriously since you appear to not care. I would say get a job where your appearance isn't as important as your skills.

If you do not want to shave then don't. Personally I think it looks better if a man does. A man looks more attractive if he shaves. Some people think hair has to do with opression. It is just a style. Hair does not change the person inside. If you choose not to just make sure your hair is neat and well groomed.

Is there a question in here?
Look, if it looks tidy, then right on, but if you have that free flowing ZZ top beard, it looks unkempt.
