Can someone please tell me why every year more and more kids are becoming so lazy they decide that dressing up for halloween is too much of a bother. So we end up hearing trick or treat from average everyday school kids, dressed as themselves. Where has the imagination gone?

Because kids are LAZY these days. They know they don't have to, so they don't. They have little or no imagination due to the realism of video games and movies, and if they want to imagine they are someone or something else, they can do it on a game or on the web instead.

I don't think it is so much the lazyness of the kids that is the problem, moreso the lazyness of the parents, and how expensive store-bought costumes can be these days! For children who still want to go out for Halloween but are approaching teenage years, their parents are less supportive to help them create easy creative costumes (my dad forbid me to trick-or-treat after age 12), and they dont have the money to go and pay $30 or more for a "cool" costume! Even as an adult, I found that costumes can be WAY too expensive.. and I have a job to help fund any Halloween purchases!
In my opinion, the imagination has to be brought back by the parents. If the children are still interested in dressing up for Halloween, then the parents should continue to help them create creative costumes. Obviously throwing a sheet over your head and showing up as a ghost has gone by the wayside, but there are simple and scary costume ideas that still remain, and its up to the parents to help!

Well as kids get older they just dress up as themselfs because they think that costumes are over rated and plus when kids get older they do not think trick or treating is cool anymore so they just have there younger siblings candy and teens would rather stay home or go to a party when they get older

Kids in my neighborhood still dress up every year ..I have seen a slight decrease in kids on the street, but that's because a lot of them are at malls where they are safer from predators.
