I have heard that lately there have been a spate of hate crimes against African-Americans perpetrated by Latin Americans, particularly Latin American gang members, and particularly in California. Supposedly in the US prison systems it's all-out war between African-American and Latin American inmates, with the Latin Americans allying with racist white inmates to go after a "common enemy". Anybody heard anything of this??

Anybody who imagines for some reason that blacks and Latinos (especially Mexicans, but ANY Latinos) are like walking hand in hand in some great coalition against 'white racism' or something like that needs to wake up to reality. Yes there is a huge gang problem between blacks and Latinos in pens across this country. Especially right now. All black men are actually currently on "green light" from Latino gangs (namely the "Eme", the "Mexican Mafia") , which means all black men are open targets for assault or worse right now, in pens across this country. Some of this violence may well be spilling over onto the streets, and maybe that's what you read about. Black men have been killed and assaulted (just for being black) in California cities with high Latino populations , yes, I have read of a few recent instances of this as well. This is similar treatment to what happened to blacks in, for example, predominantly Italian neighborhoods of NYC in the '90s , like Bensonhurst.
What I can tell you from my prison experience, and I have never worked in a Cali pen, but in the Illinois state pen system ( which has a lot of inmates from urban Chicagoland areas), what happens is , yes, Latino inmates ARE generally closer to being "allied" , I use the term somewhat loosely, with racist whites, with both of them being against the blacks. Why exactly this happens, I don't really know. They are most definitely in "business" together, the Latinos and the whites, drug business, so, that may have a lot to do with it.
Other people in the pens are loners , or "neutrons" , who are unable or unwilling to "click up" or "gang up", and for them life is even harder because they have no back up at all. Around here, in Illinois, the Italian inmates and others associated with them in any way (any who have had ties with organized crime for example), they kind of keep out of the whole fray, not allying with the Latinos , nor with the racist whites, and (obviously) not with the blacks. They DO however get involved in typical pen "business" , (which, again , is drugs, etc.).
So, it's a very ethnically and racially divided world inside, totally different from the outside, totally segregated, totally tribal. Men in there behave the way men in ancient societies would have been expected to; any insult, or even perception of an insult , must lead to immediate violent retaliation, and the man who can lash out the most violently and with the least warning, is the most highly respected. Essentially, it's a perversion of normal outside society. This is why people oftentimes have such a hard time re-adjusting to the outside world.

I live in the SF bay area and here about it online mainly. Judging from what I hear online there are problems in prisons and outside. It's hard to for me to know whether or not the prison part is even true, since I see nothing happening outside of prisons. Here, the latin gangs fight amongst themselves as do the black gangs. I never hear of big block leaving hunters point to go after latin gangs in the mission or vice versa. In my suburban town there was a big fight between latins and blacks at our high school, but I just chalked that up to a bunch of suburbanites watching a little too much Yo! MTV Raps! (or whatever) and deciding they wanted to be cool and fight... well anybody.

I have heard of it yes, but hate crimes and crimes period are basically the same, they're both unnecessary. I just wish people would realize being in a gang and acting violent will not benefit them in any way. If they are in prison why wont they just sit and do there time peacefully… Time is what you make of it, time is your life. So they are wasting their lives fighting IN PRISON. Why? Why have the gangs in prison. You would think since they're in prison the realization would come to them; that killing each other isn’t going to help anything, and they should have a more productive way to pass the time… Ignorance; if it was a race then I would be racist.

I think you've heard this wrong. They did a story about this on MSNBC. They showed that in the prisons the Whites stay with the Whites, the Blacks stay with the Blacks, and the Hispanics stay with the Hispanics. They all hated each other. I don't think the Hispanics were siding with the Whites. And it all had to do with gangs in prisons. Gangs hate each other no matter what, it has to do with drugs and territory. Usually not race. And we're talking about people in gangs and prison, it's not like they're the most rationale or upstanding citizens.

Yes....they do link up with arians in prison....this alliance only last as long as they are imprisoned, once released the Latins are back at being hated by the arian brothers....and this is ONLY done to benefit the whites in jail because the Latins are the largest population in prison in the western states...
The latins has upwards 15 murderous gangs (murder for fun)
only one or two for whites
and two for African Americans..(known)

A Latin American is anyone that was born in Latin America, if you're born in the US you're a "latino" or whatever, but not a Latin American.
You should specify mestizo latinos, once that a latino can be black or white, but that would be too much for people from your country

I use to live in California. Believe me it's not about race. It's just about gang territory. It so happens that the biggest gangs in California are Black and Latino gangs. So they fight amongst each other. Most Latinos and Black get along, well the ones who aren't in gangs do. I'm gonna tell you the truth, since I'm Latina i've heard it and seen it many times. Most of the Latinos will side with Blacks before they will side with Whites.

yea, but i dont know why they are doing that, b/c even if they get rid of the blacks, the whites are gonna go after the hispanics, they dont like them anymore than they do blacks, so instead of being enemys they need to work together, true white supremicisits likes no one of color. besides usually hispaniscs and blacks relate more seein as how they have the same negative image as we do. sad
