what happend to gerard way's grandma?

She died, and Gerard wrote a song for her (Elena Lee Rush) called "Helena". She was one of his biggest influences, being the one who taught him to sing, dance, and draw.

I dont know, i think she either died of old age or cancer... I think she was called Helena (hence the song and video) That song IS bout Gerard and Mikeys grandma. They have said som themselves many times ^_^

she died ..sadly for ppl who dont already know gerards grandma
was his mentor he leared everything he knew about singing from his grandma helena (called ellena bby loved ones) alot of ppl think he wrote the song about his gf in college who commmited suicide "things are better if i stay so long and goodnight ..ect.)
"just like the blade you stain" i think its possible that its deticated to both but thats besides the point she died no1 realy knows how check out interviews on youtube

his grandmother was his most influential person in his life.
she taught him to sing, dance, draw and act. A few years ago, she died and he wrote a song about her, "helena" (for her nickname, her real name was Elena.
