I have a baby bouncer with a removable cover which was stored in my garage until I could sell it, foolishly in a plastic bag. I discovered it was covered in mildew. I have tried washing it but the damp spots are still on the material. It is handwash only so what do I do now?

Hello Alison, All is not lost, Normally if you hang clothing, or in your case the cover of the bouncer chair outside in the sun ,the sun will kill of the mildew, but sometimes your still left with these little marks, so here´s what to do squeeze some lemon juice onto the spots and let it dry in , then wash by hand and straight out side to dry , if this does not work you can add lemon juice and salt , but this you normally do for dry cleaning material´s . hope that work´s for you . If all fail´s , but I don´t think it will you can buy a peroxide solution you can use on materials

Once mould has been identified, it is best to remove and replace any porous materials such as dry wall, ceiling tiles, fabric or carpet that have been impacted by mould. Materials such as metal, glass, hard plastic, wood and concrete can be cleaned using a mixture of bleach, water, and non-ammonia based dishwashing detergent. It is usually recommended that a contractor be retained for large areas.

To prevent mould from growing, the relative humidity should be maintained between 30% and 50%. This can be accomplished by using dehumidifiers and/or air conditioners, and ensuring sufficient ventilation. Also, do not install carpet around fountains, sinks, bathtubs/showers or directly on top of concrete floors that are prone to leaks or moisture.

Pour undiluted white distilled vinegar into a spray bottle. Vinegar is great at getting rid of mildew, and it also eliminates the bad odor. Spray the vinegar onto the affected areas. Let it sit for several hours, ideally outside in the sun.
Use warm, sudsy water and a rag, to wash it, and hang the garment to dry in a clean, dry place.
