My main goal is to major and receive a degree in Philosophy, but I would also like to fill all my prerequisites for medical school. Has anyone ever done this (not specifically) or anything like it? My real passion is to blend the two together somehow (The Ethics of Assisted Suicide?). Any commentary, criticism, etc. etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it is very possible. Many people each year apply to medical school with a back ground in the social sciences, humanities, or liberal arts. In fact in 2006, 5730 applied to medical school that fell into those categories.

Some schools now have specific programs called "Medical Humanities" that combine exactly the types of learning you are talking about with the premed prerequisites. The link to one of those programs is listed below.

I would highly suggest looking into these programs and by all means continue to explore the fusion of medicine and the humanities.

pre-med isn't a major it is a suggestion of classes that will be looked at by medical schools. many schools support pre-med students by having pre-med gatherings and special pre-med advisors, but it is not a major, so you still have to declare something. Philosophy classes sometimes have great overlaps with medicine. Ethics, philosophy of science, etc. as you have pointed out.

I knew people who did this same sort of thing in college. One did a double major philosophy and economics while holding down a pre-med track. I'm not sure how that played out, though!

Pre-med is not a major. It is very possible to be on the pre-med track and major in philosophy. Combining them seems interesting. Go for it.

Yes. Majoring in Philosophy will make you think clearly. Having a plan that will also get you a job is a great idea.

Has anyone else studied both fields? The name Aristotle comes to mind.

that sounds like a good idea.. pre med is chemistry/math/hard classes based. Philosophy is relatively easy as far as college majors go. I dont know about blending them career wise but school wise sounds good.
Also, a lot of phil classes can count for the prereqs!!!
