What does it mean to be petty? Why do people say that women are petty?

Women are accused of being petty when their concerns seem small and pointless. (obviously to everyone but themselves) They take up everyones time and energy dealing with trival matters, when most of the time it should just be allowed to drop.

To be petty means:
1) having or showing narrow ideas, interests, etc.(a petty mind)
2) mean or ungenerous in small or trifling things(petty person)
3) showing meanness of spirit
People say women are petty because many women tend to let their wants, needs and thoughts be known- sometimes in rude, demanding ways.
It is my opinion that everyone is petty. Some people just let others know what they think in louder ways.

Small minded people are petty. People who take pot shots at others without reason are petty.
A petty crime would be someone stealing a candy bar, not robbing a bank for millions.

Petty means "small" or "trivial". When someone is called that it's saying they put too much importance on small or trivial issues. They make a big deal out of nothing, make a mountain out of a molehill.

i think people say we are petty because most of us are competitive(with other women) over trivial things, we can hold grudges to our death bed, and we gossip......i love being a girl

It can also mean picking on minor things.Worrying about insignifigant stuff,like which shoes to wear with what outfit.
