It's pretty genius. It's not just a cheesy popcorn flick. Imagine "Beverly Hills 90210" meets "Aliens". Director Paul Verhoeven juxtaposes a teeny bopper love triangle with appalling ultra violence, all with a cynical wink at the camera.
It's hilarious and then suddenly horrifying. lots of fun.

I thought it was a very effective piece of propaganda. Propaganda because it can be seen as connecting Islam as a whole with terrorism (which I think he's stated was his intent) rather than just those who perform those horrific acts and those who support them. Effective, because the film doesn't have any narration that tells the audience what to think. It relies on images and video clips of terrorism, and quotations from the Qur'an (whose veracity and translation those of us who cannot speak Arabic cannot judge). Not, overall, a contribution to interfaith understanding. But Wilders' right to free speech must be supported, just like the free speech rights of those who protested against the Muhammad cartoons with signs saying "Behead those who insult Islam!"

I really liked it. I'm a big Sci-Fi fan it for an entertaining movie it was really good. The effects were really good and the bugs were cool. There was a lot of blood and gore but all of Verhoeven's movies are like that.
I knew going in it was not going to win any Academy awards and I just went to be entertained. I own it on DVD and I watch it from time to time (only when it's on cable 'cause the edited version sucks!) But, overall I really liked it. Plus it has Michael Ironside in it, and you can't go wrong with him.

I liked it - decent sci-fi action movie. Cookie cutter characters mostly but the World they envisioned in the future was certainly interesting.

Certainly can see that Gears of War on 360 got some inspiration from it.

Good enough to rent, don't really see the point of owning though.

It's a cheese-ball B-grade sci-fi flick but entertaining nonetheless. I was particularly amused by seeing Clancy Brown in the part of one of the good guys after his portrayal of the villainous Capt. Byron Hadley in the all-time GREAT Shawshank Redemption.

absolutly horrible, I am from Wyoming and have driven past Hell's Half Acre (where they filmed the alien planet) I hated this show, yuck, couldn't turn it off fast enough. However Denise Richards is still pretty hot.

I was rooting for the bugs a quarter of the way through the movie to kill all the cheesy actors and actresses.

It's a popcorn movie, like Independence Day and Armageddon.

They don't make sense, but they're a LOT of fun to watch.
