The most significant events were WW1 and WW2. The U.S.A. was actually in a very isolationist mood. We would have preferred to not get involved in either war. World war one actually set the stage for world war 2. It put in place the conditions that allowed Hitler and Mussolini to rise to power.

During the duration of World War two, there were many advancements in our scientific knowledge. Things that ranged from the Atom bomb to Radar. Advances with things like Aircraft and weaponry development created many consumer items after the war. Television was also being developed from around 1911 on. Color T.V. was in development in the late 30's early 40's.
