a 56k modem maxes out at 56k, so 24-33k may be the best you can get based on the location you live in, the wiring in your house, etc. For the amount you would spend upgrading these, you are better off like people are saying, just getting DSL or broadband. Prices have come down significantly and the difference in speeds is dramatic.
There are programs that can "speed up" dialup but all they do is reduce image quality so that the files you download are of lesser quality which means smaller file size.

Dial up is slow. If you need something a bit faster go with DSL. The prices have come down alot. If you need something even faster check into getting cable. That's really fast.

I'm with you. I had dial up at home because my computer is so old i couldn't use broadband.
Just don't bother with those accelerator services some companies offer. I found they didn't work well enough to warrant the extra cost.
Just save up your money and buy a new computer.

There's internet "boosters" out there. But I don't know if any of them are free. McAfee sells one for about $30. I don't know how well they work though...There's always AT&T / yahoo for about $15 a month.
