I'm Jewish and I don't see myself different from many of my non-Jewish friends, I don't understand why a large portion of this world has a deep hatred for Jews.

The reasons Jews are and have often been hated are complex .
I'd say for one, Jews are a nation and not just a religion, and thus it seems pretty much incredible how they've survived for so many years without a country of their own.
They have been clever and they have been acting as a team. Teamwork is of great importance for nations to perform well. There has been great unity between them which has been further reinforced by other nations' persecutions of them.(resulting in great survival skills)
Also the Jews today have great power, both economic and political.
All these reasons distinguish them from the other nations. And to be distinguished very often results in being hated.

I've heard of people in Germany during the Nazi time who had Jewish friends they personally liked and could still believe their friends were an "exception" and the Jews as a whole were responsible for all problems as the propaganda told them.
I got to know people from Muslim countries who hate Jews and none of them has ever met a Jew in his life, but they watch TV in their countries and there they hear preachers who tell them that Jews were evil by nature and responsible for all problems of the world, they watch movies that portray Jews as greedy and deceitful and they hear distorted news about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that portray Jews as cruel and bloodthirsty "conspirators".
