I'm buying a new mattress and box-spring. I was asked if I want a 8.75" or 5.5" box-spring.
I have no idea? From your experience, what difference does 3.25" make? Please advise...

the 8.75 is normal and the 5.5 is a low profile box spring. If your bed sits up high normally or you are getting a really thick mattress then you might like the low profile. It will keep you from needing a step to get in your bed. Most always go with the regular size.

It's only about more height off the floor. If you are tall (like me) you want the bigger box. If you are short, you'd want a short box.

Box springs, today, are simply boxes. They don't provide any extra support to the mattress, other than holding it up off the frame.

Honestly...not much. It just something for them to charge to more. I don't even have a box. My mattress site on drawers units. Keep sit firm enough and that's all a Boxspring really does. Keep the mattress from sagging.

The deeper box spring will provide more support. Also check that whichever box spring you choose will get into your apartment/condo/house, round any corners, up any stairs, etc.

Depends on how much support you want and how high you would like your bed to be
