you need to rig a perpendicular piece support between the rafters, a couple of 2 x 4's will work if the rafters are good and strong. should add more support if rafters more than 16" on center. use a O ring ended screw or bolt(large enough, able to support the weight)to hold the attachment (chain) on the bag and long enough to run up through the ceiling and into the wood bracing you install. using screws will be best in case the whole rigging is not wanted in the future, and can be easier to remove than with nails.
try to keep it away from wall contacts to reduce any possibility of wall damage.

I think I would actually put this on a mobile base, so it could be moved around. Much like the basketball goals you see in the stores.
If I were going to hang one from my ceiling, I would actually lay some 2x4's crosswise to the rafters, to spread the support over several of them, And, instead of just using a lag bolt into the cross brace, I would run a large bolt all the way thru it, complete with heavy washers.
Have Fun

A punchbag has to be hung from a main beam. If there is one in your sons bedroom drill a hole in it and put a screw hook in but make sure its secure. Hang up the punchbag and away you go. You dont screw it into the ceiling.

What ever way you hang a punch bag you are going to damage the ceiling ,your best way is to pick up two beams and clamp a plate spanning both beams with a eye bolt fixed in to the centre of the plate.

You will need to go through a supporting beam in the ceiling. You would maybe use a big bolt with an eye (circle) at one end, and then use a large washer and nut to secure it.

You need to locate the roof joist and ensure the mounting screws go in well and in the middle. Filing that you would be better with a spreader that would cross two roof joists to spread load and fix bag to spreader.

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/qpMAM
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.

find the main beam in the roof. You could add more supports to the mian beam in the roof and then hang it.

you will have to go through the main beam. I would suggest you hang it in a covered area outside somewhere it is one of those sand filled bags.
