I was involve in a car accident in which i was hit from behind, therefore hitting the car infonrt of me. The impact was severe, in which my car was considered a total loss (2001 Honda Civic Coupe). Should i sue the Honda Corporation for the malfunction of the airbags and seatbelt? all the required maintances have been done and i have record of it.

Air bags are designed to inflate on a high speed front end collision. Since you got hit from behind the air bags did not deploy

If you were hit from behind, the seatbelt nor the airbag were designed to help you. being hit from behind would force the back of the seat up against you and the seat may have saved your life. The problem with some cars (I don't know about the 2001 Civic) is that the headrest will allow your head to snap backwards as the seat moves forwards, resulting in whiplash.

I was in a 1976 Honda civic (back in 1996) - and the same thing happened to me. Of course - I didn't have airbags (they were not invented yet in 76) - but the seat belt did not hold me back and I hit my head on what I think was the steering wheel - and spranged my ankle. I sit very close up to the front of the car (as close as the seat will allow). My lawyer (I did sue the guy who hit me from behind) said that we might have trouble proving that my seat belt was on - because if I was wearing it - I wouldn't have received a cut above my eye. But I ABSOLUTELY knew that I had my seat belt on - and that was that.

Since the person hit you from behind - that's probably who you should be suing. You'll have a much better chance getting money from him/his insurance company - than you will Honda. Big firms have lots of powerful lawyers. You probably don't.

I agree with Dodgeman, I have heard of some people complaining on other boards about the airbags and seatbelts for Honda products. I would first file a complain with NHTSA.gov so they can investigate. Providing a link.

Really they don't do much of anything with investigations unless consumers complain about their issue.

Read up on others complaints and see if they match.

For instance, if you ran into the rear of something going 40 mph and YOU were going 65 mph, the bags would deploy. If you hit the rear of something that was going 40 mph and you were going 50 mph, the bags would not necessarily deploy. My point is you may have gotten hit hard from behind, but the impact on your car to the one in front of you was not as severe, or not had great speed difference.

i own a repair shop, and your not the only one this has happened to either ,if i was you id consider filing a law suit, because there is some kind of a defect in some of the Honda,s which is making the air airbags not deploy on them, id contact a lawyer and see what advice he could give me on the subject, that would be the first step to take on this, and go from there with it,good luck i hope this help,s.
