She helped the President with his "release", thus comprimising national security. No I'm just kidding she helped issue a new type of celebrity. Marilyn Monroe was the first blonde bombshell superstar. She sang, acted, and looked beautiful. She gained all kinds of scrutiny from the media, because she couldn't sing or act too well. The media always had something to say about her. She was a big time celebrity in the public eye and posed naked for Playboy, and died of a "drug overdose". She partied with other big singers and actors, and married a sports legend. If that's not influencing American culture then I don't know what is.

She didn't help or change America. She was an "actress". Her biggest claim to fame were her husbands, Joe DiMaggio and the playwright Aurther Miller. Her true love was rumored to be JFK, which would make Marilyn nothing more than the first Monica.

You should also do some more searches on the name "Norma Jean Baker". How did the blonde bombshell cause controversy? She was Blonde and Gorgeous. She was a (well liked - to a point - and successful) actress She had multiple husbands The scene from "Some like it hot" will still get males over the age of 60 dreamy eyed. (That's the one where she stands over a hot air grate and her skirt gets blown up) She posed nude for Playboy She was the alleged mistress of JFK and she died in rather mysterious circumstances. There should be more???
