DO NOT cancel first. The people saying to cancel first are idiots. The current service will be cancelled automatically when the number is taken to the new provider. It HAS to stay open in order to get the number ported.

no dont do that if you cancel first they wont be able to port it over it will be lost just go to the new company and they will request the port it takes about 3 hrs for the old company to release the number and for it to become active on the new service but then it will automatically cancel witht the old provider and you will get a final bill

NO..in fact if you cancel your current provider before you port your number..then you cant keep your number...tell your new provider that you want to port your number and they will take care of it from there..(they will cancel your account for you.)

Call Helio, ask to start a new account and tell them you want to keep your Sprint number. Your Sprint account has to be ACTIVE for the process to work. Helio will begin the port process, and once it is completed, it will automatically cause your Sprint account to cancel, so there would be a cancellation fee in that case. hope that helps!

don't disconnect or you will not be able to keep the number. the first answer is dead wrong. i port numbers all day long. i know better than anyone. approach the company you want to switch to and they will cancel for you.

call up and cancel with the company you have right now. Make sure you yell really loudly, and tell them you are taking your number somewhere else. They love that.
