in the animal kingdom they mate only to bring children, why isn't it the same for human beings? why do we have a constant desire for physical contact and for mating? we would be better off if we didn't have the constant urge to mate.

"in the animal kingdom they mate only to bring children"

This is a complete and total lie. If you knew anything about biology and animals, you wouldn't be spewing this trash.

Boy, you sure know nothing at all about "the animal kingdom." Many animals will have sex or try to get sexual stimulation every chance they get. Ever seen a dog "humping" somebody's leg? Think it's doing that only for offspring? It's doing it because it FEELS GOOD.

Humans have an incredibly strong sex drive (like most mammals). And since sex releases hormones and chemicals in our bodies that make us feel really good, there's a very positive aspect to sex. As long as the people involved are consenting adults, and they take whatever precautions they feel necessary against disease or pregnancy, why should sex be restricted to "making offspring only?" It feels GOOD. It's enjoyable. With a tiny bit of precaution, it hurts nobody and doesn't result in unwanted pregnancy. What's the problem?

It appears you've bought into the christian sales job that "sex is dirty and sinful, people are dirty, sex is only for procreation." Sad. Not only is that against human nature completely, 80% of the rest of the world thinks it's incredibly dumb (those that aren't christians). Many other religions actively celebrate sex and sexuality. Even the old testament does, singing the praises of sex, women's breasts, etc. -- it's downright pornographic at times. And since the vast majority of unwanted pregnancies, carriers of sexual disease, and divorces caused by infidelity in the US are all done by christians...it appears none of them actually follow what their religions teach them anyway -- their natural desires are too strong. The only difference is that because of their religion they don't take proper precautions, and then they feel guilty about it afterwards. What a dumb thing to teach to people...:(

Actually, dolphins mate for pleasure, just like we do. Furthermore, do you really feel that we would be better off without the urge for physical contact? Studies have shown that a great number of animal species, including humans, suffer negative long-term effects from a lack of affection and physical contact.

Who is your teacher???? There IS sexual contact in mammals that is not sole intended for reproduction. Plus, animals DO have an intense urge to mate when females are ripe. But in humans, males have lost the ability to detect female ripeness unassisted, so their urge must be more constant. Otherwise the continuation of the species would be in jeopardy. I hope this answers your question.Furthermore, most humans believe that this enhances the life we lead, and constant physical contact among mates and offspring is common in many, many mammals.

You are woefully misinformed as to the sexual mating habits in the animal kingdom. Clearly you feel that the root of your personal problems or society's problems stem from an overactive sex drive. I doubt though that you would find a lack of physical contact or mating for procreation only within our society to be the Utopia that you envision.

An uneducated lie. They have documented cases of homosexuality occuring in over 100 species. Animals probably aren't thinking about little baby animals when they are procreating they are likely seeking sexual gratification just like us.

Where have you been? Animals purely have sex by instinct and desire who said anything about having kids?

For instance a cougar mates with its mate and then leaves.

It never stays.

You are inaccurate, ignorant, and illiterate.

Sex is NOT used just for "bringing off springs". Unless that is some trailer trash sexual inuendo that I don't understand. For example, in your mother's case, sex is strictly a financial transaction.
