i dont really want a whole computer. how can i email, and or surf the net thru a small device such as pda

Depends on what you have. I have the Sprint PPC 6700 which is considered a pocket PC cuz you can touch the screen versus the smart phone which you navigate with the buttons. The both are personal data assistants. But anyway, it is just the matter of the telephone plan you have. I can get the one where no matter where I am in the US the price is the same. I got the local plan as it was a couple of dollars cheaper and I do not need the extended calling plan. You would have to go with your carrier and see what the cost is for accessing the internet anywhere in the US versus just around home. Everyone has different plans and I do not know them all. Call your carrier.
