How old is your hamster? Syrians live on average 2-3 years. I find her not wanting to be held strange. Hamsters can get our colds very easily. Since she's been sneezing and has the closed eye, a trip to the vet is needed. She may need antibiotics to get better. Sneezing can indicate a respiratory problem or pneumonia, both can cause death. Cleaning her eye with the warm wash cloth was a good idea. Make sure she is eating and more important drinking. If she stops drinking ever, get to the vet. Hamsters can dehydrate quickly.

PS Don't take her to the pet store for medical care, they're not vets and can't treat you pets legally. Only take to a vet for treatments.
Hope your little girl gets better soon.

How old is she? Hamsters only live about 2-1/2 years, so she may just be very old and getting ready to die. This is how some of my hamsters acted when they got old.

Another possibility is that she has a cold- the closed eye might be a sign of that. A cold in a hamster can be quite serious.

How old is she, do you know? Unfortunately hamsters have very short life spans, only 2 - 2 1/2 years. A sudden personality change is something to be concerned about, I'd try to find a vet who treats small animals - not all do - and at least talk with them about what could be wrong. Good luck!

She most likely has a cold. My first hamster was mean to me and had both eyes closed with gunk stuck in them. He would stand up on his hind legs and hiss at me. He was scared and didn't feel good. So I took him in and had to trade because it was something that they had to put him on medicane for, for a while. But anyways if she's not acting like herself, and she sneezes and everything you explained, she most likely has a cold. Take her to a pet store or vet and they will give you the right medicane. I suggest a pet store so you don't have to pay high medical bills =) Good luck!

If you are using cedar chips or pine shaving this could be what is doing this. Use a recycled paper bedding. The cedar or pine creates a lot of dust, which may be what is causing the sneezing/ It could lead to respiratory problems in the long run.
