F1 or ESC
or try:
1. Turn on computer by Holding down power button while pressing the ESC key.
The machine will beep, then display:
Check System, then press [F1] key.
2. Release ESC key
3. Press F1 key

When you boot up you should get a screen telling you to press F10 while booting. Sometimes it may be a different F key depending on the manufacturer. However I assume you mean format the hard drive as you cannot format the BIOS and unless you know what you are doing I suggest you don.t change anything in there. Without knowing what you are trying to do it's difficult to advise but if you have got your install discs you can return it to factory settings by booting with the CD/DVD in the drive. Good Luck.

It would have helped immensely if you'd told us which particular notebook you have.
I do hope you're talking about formatting the hard drive of your notebook, as you don't format the BIOS.
On some versions of the Satellite Pro Notebook you have to make changes using HW Setup. Again, there are different ways to access this function. On the A100, for instance, you do this from within Windows itself. You can make changes such as Boot Sequence order, etc.

I have recently done some work on that model for a friend,basically upgrades and new windows program.
I still have two i am working on that have screen problems,but i can tell you i believe it is F2 to get into bios,but i couldnt swear on it.
But have a go and you'll soon see . good luck.
