If you don't want to tell her, or if she won't believe you, then tell her you cannot go to the movies. I mean, you can't expect someone else to pay for you... so don't go. Just say -- I don't have the money.

Tell her that you are unable to go to the movies because you can't afford it. Either she won't believe you, in which case she will eventually believe you because you will never go anywhere with her where spending money is involved. If she does believe you, chances are she will either offer to pay (if she really wants to go) or suggest something else. You can suggest something else yourself. Instead of going to the movies, why don't you ride bikes? Or even go to the mall to window shop, which can actually be more fun that it sounds. I hope your situation works out.

Don't go to the movies if you don't have the money, don't expect for your Friends to pay your way even if you are going bankrupt. Your family might not want everyone to know that either so you might want to try not to tell everyone.

So sorry to hear about your financial situation.
I don't know if you are waiting until the last minute [when you are in the theater lobby] to tell her. To her it may seem like you are just mooching. Have YOU ever paid for your friend in past when she was short on funds? Maybe you can mention that up. But, you need to tell your friend upfront before you end up at a restaurant, or movie with no money to pay the bill.
If your friend does not understand, maybe they are not really a friend after all. Sorry.

First, if you can't afford the movies then you need to stay away from them. If she is your friend then she will find things that you and her can do together without that much money. You should not expect her or anyone else to pay for you to go anywhere.

I'm sorry that your family is going through a hard time financially. Been there, I know it sucks.
You just say "I can't make it, thanks for thinking of me though." If she asks why, say "I've already explained that."
Even the stupidest friend will figure this out after the 5th or 6th repetition.
Good luck. :)
P.S. Guys, she didn't say she was looking for someone to pay for her. She seems to just be frustrated with not getting through to her friend that she can't do this. Quit implying she's a mooch, sheesh.

Simple - just tell her you can't go to the movies when she invites you. You should not expect your friend to pay unless she offers.
