Yep, sure did, I sold my house, everything in it, bought a pickup truck and travel trailer and headed out. I settled down in a small city (85,000) in Washington State ... if you call still living in the travel trailer settling down! I later moved across the border into Canada.

I happened to have a steady income and did not have to worry about finding a job before my money ran out.

Here is what I would recommend: Save up 3-6 months worth of living expenses, obviously the more the better. When you first move, move into a studio apt or just a room until you get a job ... that way you minimize expenses. Do research for the kinds of work you are looking for, to know what the prospects are in various areas. Also research the areas you are interested in, to see if it's a good match for you.

My daughter moved from a tiny (2,500) rural town in Oregon to New York City, alone, at age 19, with four months of expenses and two large suitcases of her important stuff. It wasn't easy, and she came back after a few years, but she cherishes the time there and is glad she did it.

I have done it several times. It helps to have a marketable skill and a bit of a financial cushion. Classified ads in cities or towns you're thinking of will tell you a lot. The last time I just got up and went to live was from the U.S. to Central America, alone.
