St Paul's Cathedral at dusk, when the choir is singing evensong. With your eyes open you see one of London's greatest buildings; with your eyes closed you can soar with the music.

The 300-year-old Lamb & Flag pub in Covent Garden. Go on a Sunday lunchtime and head upstairs for a quiet beer and a tasty bite to eat; or turn up on Sunday evenings for great live jazz.

Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath, to watch the fireworks on 5 November or New Year's Day, or on any breezy weekend, when the whole sky is a rainbow of kites.
