To me, it was about the many aspects of love. You have self love (Tybalt), Heterosexual love (Romeo/Juliet), Friendship love (Benvolio/Romeo), Maternal love (Juliet's Nurse/Juliet), The love of Money/Power (Lady Capulet), Loyalty (I see it as a form of love) (Balthasar/Romeo), Possible (only hinted at) Homosexual love (Mercutio/Romeo).
I'm not sure if that helps, feel free to e-mail me for further discussion!

Romeo and Juliet is a tale of tragic love. Two teenagers fall in love, but their families hate each other. It has everything--love, suicide, warring families, tradition, etc. It is a story that really can be related to modern times very easily. Try reading it--it's great.

haha- I agree with the english teacher, get the "modern" version and its a quick read. If you are writing a paper... you can talk about how ironic the ending was and that what intrigued you.

I can't imagine anyone who could consider himself educated who hasn't read this play. It is not that difficult. Please do yourself a favor and educate yourself. Read it.
