I have 9 hamsters and one of them just gave birth about 30 minutes ago. i was holding her and when i put her down she gave birth. I removed her sister from the cage. we have recently got rid of her brother they were all in a cage together. and i was wondering how long are hamsters pregnant before birth because im not sure if her sister is a girl or a boy?

Sixteen days- the shortest gestation period of any mammal.
Your other female may be pregnant, too.
I once found a hamster in the yard. He was male, but the next day I found a female and she was already pregnant. She had a litter of 8 a couple of days later. I was unable to find homes for all of them so I had a row of cages and aquariums, but the mom managed to get pregnant again. I gave her to someone who wanted to raise the hamsters, and she had 12 that time.
The males have a big bulbous area around their tails- it's actually their testicles which are enormous for such a small animal. It's easy to tell them apart.
Take the other adult out and put him or her in his own cage immediately. Hamsters will fight over and kill their own young sometimes. DON'T MESS WITH THE BABIES!!! Leave them alone until their eyes are open. Hamster mothers are very particular and may kill their young if things get upset in the cage.

My god dont even get me started lol i had a hamster and the pet shop told me it was a male so when i got home i put it with my male as they got on. So i trun my back and they was haveing sex like dog style lol i went away on hoilday as i thought my hamster might be gay but when i went away for a week and came back he was really a she and she gave bith it takes about 2 to 3 weeks my hamster let me pick them up BUT some hamters will not let people go any where near them. if you are really close to her then she may let you my hamster let me pick them up and hug them and she never eat them - all so keep feeding her the same food as u are giveing to her now and when the babys are older you must put males and felmales in other cages i hope this is help full P.S when the babys are born they smell lol good luck all so try not to stess her out when she is giveing bith
