Yes there is a jewish month and a hispanic month- white history is celebrated all year. I believe that if you all really wanted a month or a month to recognized like black history month is YOU all would work on getting that, but what I am starting to think is that some of you just want to complain. Do the work to get it started and then you will have one, but if you just keep making questions up on here and do nothing then it is your own fault that you all don't have one...

Every day is White History Month. Blacks in America have had out "history" stolen form us. Our true history have been written out of the History Books. Jews have not had their history stolen from them and in fact, they say that 2000 years of history is what binds them together as a people. I don't think that you can define a "Hispanic". What is "Hispanic"??? Are you talking about Europeans??? Are you Talking about South Americans??? Which country in South America???
Any group that comes to America by choice should accept it the way it was when they came here. Black Americans did not come here by choice. We did not come here on the Mayflower. We did not come here on the Nina, the Pinta, or the Santa Maria. We came here on the ship called Jesus, We did not come here seeking freedom because we were free where we were. We were brought here by Trafficker that wanted to strip us from anything associated with ourselves. So we decided to educate our selves.
PS, Being the least racist person you know does not mean that you are not a racist!

I don't mean to be tacky, but if you can't go and look for this question to find your answer, as someone proclaimed, they didn't find one that satisfied them ... why keep asking? Don't worry about it then. It is not for you to worry about. Does Black history month affect you in that you can't go to work, can't think, can't act right - you are ignorant because February is Black history month? Why not ask why there isn't a month that Yahoo Answerers can get a break from those who ask the same questions and give the same questions over and over? How about that one? Or...if you're so concerned about it ... why are you on Yahoo Answers catering to the racist, ignorant minds of those individuals who have nothing to do but come on the Internet (another way to harass people) and ask black and white questions all day. Mind your own business. Why can't people mind their own business? How about a "Mind Your Own Business" month, or television show? Good luck finding the golden answer to the golden question.

I understand what you mean, last year we had a discussion in class about Black History Month. We do have a at least a day for some other different groups. One interesting point that we discussed was why do we not integrate "Black History" month into the whole year? We need to learn the mistakes made in our past and celebrate certain groups traditions and so forth, do you think there is a better way to do so other than making this month 'BHM'?
PS. Every month is 'white history month'.

Thank you Jubilant_Sleep! Instead of asking about why is there a Black History month, I think you should ask why did Black History week, then it was made into a month, had to be created in the first place. It was not Black people's fault. In this day and time, even if there were no Black History month, ask this when are schools going to stop separating classes into American History Class and Black History class and have books and classes that integrate all races? Before any minority history month is stopped, it should be incorporated in all American History books and classes.

Why don't you all use the handy feature that allows you to see if your question has been asked before, because I guarantee you'll be able to find this exact question that has been answered quite sensibly at least 200 times on Yahoo Answers.
I'll answer your question, nonetheless, so you won't be confused.
Black History Month exists for the sole reason that there WAS discrimination (there still is, but that's a different discussion). If it weren't for things like BHM and programs that catered to the needs of blacks, many of the successful blacks of today's world would not be where they are today. Relying on "equality" in the 60's wasn't a very smart thing to do. Now I do agree that such programs may not be needed in today's world, but for crying out loud, BHM was not invented to make any other race feel bad!
And for your information:
There are Jewish History months depending on the state you're in. JHM is in March in Florida.
Bush has recently decided to proclaim May Jewish History Month.
Hispanic Heritage Month is in September.
Native American Heritage Month is in November.
Women's History Month is next month, March.
Asian/Pacific Islander Month is in May.
Do your research.

Blacks have not only overcome the slavery, the oppression, but they are a vital part of the history as well as the creation of this land. The Spanish & the Jews did not play a role in building of America---nor did they suffer the injustice & oppression like the Blacks have. Hope you understand this very critical point!

You don't know what your talking about missy....#1 There is a Hispanic Heritage month which is in September 15 &16 that last until October 16 , there are St. Patrick day parades, Puerto Rican Day Parades,Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in May, Cinco de Mayo....Maybe you should get togther with other Jewish people and maybe come up with something...I don't think thats a bad idea.. Bascially these days are for others to recongnize culture. I don't think your a racist person but it's not about segregating it's about knowing about our history, and even leaning about others history.

Educating children (and people in general) about historical 'wrong-doings' as a way of working to prevent future acts of the same nature is fine (though as the person posing the question pointed out, high-lighting our differences again and pointing fingers is not going to solve the problem), as long as we make clear that the people of TODAY are not responsible for the actions done by the people of yesterday. This isn't just a black/white issue, it happens with many different cultures in the world, because in the past, the world was a very different place, where it was common for cultures who clashed to do cruel and unjustifiable things to one another (well, and it still happens today). While some teachers can understand that putting anger and hatred in their students' hearts based upon what happened a century (or more) ago is destructive to our well-being as a nation, there are others who, fueled by their angry reactions to the stories from yesterday, feel the need to teach their children to lash out at their peers TODAY, and that is not fair.
While it is important to understand what constitutes as completely cruel behavior, we need to move forward as a society and embrace our differences, and we can't do that unless we are all allowed to freely celebrate who we are, regardless of cultural, religious and racial origins.

The purpose of black history is to TELL THE STORIES of people who lived thought those times. Why is not important to tell these story so that Blacks and Whites know that black people have been making contributions to this country for many, many years. So kids know that being black is more than Rap, Sport and entertainment.
What does black month mean to you?
Jews, Asians, Hispanics do have there own months as well. The problem is, is that no one researches this before they ask it.
