subs. i have seen tiny subs go down to the bottom of the ocean deepest parts on tv .?

the little subs have windows. or glass viewing spots whatever. so how come military subs dont have that too it sure would be easier to steer them if they had a window. now i know about underwater blasts but they could have very solid hatch covers to put over the windows when under attack so whats up with driving blind

Some specially designed 2 or 3 man submarines such as the one built to examine the underwater lava flows in Hawaii are capable of diving to more than 1,000' They are equipped with huge halogen lights to enable the passengers to study the outside view of the bottom in exquisite detail. I have dived to 850' in one of these subs just outside of Pearl Harbor and examined the ruins of WWII aircraft and ships. That particular sub had a 30" diameter, 2" thick observation bubble.

Ocean going military submarines which are limited to a maximum depth of 800' are rarely traveling close to the ocean floor, so there are very few requirements for an outside view. Even if they could look outside there would not be much of a view as the darkness and viewing range would limit visibility to 100' or less.

The on-board instrumentation and navigational aids provide a much more usable "picture" of the outside environment.

Well, except for the fact that down there even with big "headlights" visibility would be amybe like 50 feet and it takes nearly a quarter of a mile to make even a sharp turn in a sub, what's the point? Let you see just as you hit it, what passive soanr would have detected many miles away?

the subs you see that go extremely deep are ROV's...remote operated vehicles. no people on board. if you see one with a porthole and a person in it, it can't go very deep.
