In my country if we steal they cut or fingers of so we cant steal and leave or hands so we can still pray. If u steal hear they give u a silly fine or probation. America is to soft some times. And other time to harsh like when a kid crosses the street without looking and is jay walking and someone happens to hit him. They get sued and go to jail for 5 years. IN my country if it was an accedent u go to the kids parents appoligize pray with them. Give the a little bit of money and your even and god forgives.

Funny you ask. I was born overseas. Care not to mention where. Anyway when I first moved her to America I thought wow ! ! ! This place is great I mean I was young so from a childs point of view how much freer can you be. As long as you had money there wasn't anything you couldn't do (remember I was a child). So i went to school and I studied which is what i was told to do. As times past and I grew older things just became weird I couldn't understand why things happend and why certain people where killed but it turns out it's all politics and as long as you know how to BS you'll make it in america. Honestly I live here because I don't have to means to make it anywhere else but if I had a choice I don't think I would be living here. Society has become so dissapointing and you don't see a lot of people fighting for the right thing anymore everyone is out for themselfs.

I think America is great and full of diverse fascinating people, you can truly become anything you want here, look at Arnold Scwarzenegger? he came here with 20 bucks in his pocket and didn't know a lick of english, how about that guy that the movie "pursuit of happiness" is based on (will smith plays him, true story) , he was so poor and had barely a high school education, but he worked hard and now he's a millionaire! my husband just has a GED, he's 23 and just bought a 2002 corvette! I definately believe anything is possible here, as long as you work hard and don't depend on other people to take care of you, you are the only one who can make yourself successful nobody else will

I'm from Mexico and I relate "America" (and to me that's wrong, because America is the whole continent)...with economic success. I lived there for 8 yrs. and not because I wanted to, I was always perfectly legal and I came back to Mexico because it was my choice. It was a nice experience, I met people from all over the world, learned about different cultures and languages.
So people say the U.S. is the richest country and that everyone wants to go there to get everything for free. That's a lie. Ok so you have higher salaries, but everything is so much more expensive, especially health care. They think illiegal immigrants get everything for free and live off the system, and don't pay taxes, etc...and honestly, I've never seen people work harder than the illegal immigrants. But anyway, that's a different subject. But it's funny how one of the richest countries in the world don't have free health care. In Mexico we do, all the workers have the right to free health care, and there's is where we have the best doctors in the country.
I can keep going and going, but I gotta go.
Good luck...

America, quite fundamentally, is the 'go get it yourself' nation of the world. It assumes that all are free to pursue happiness, but it goes further to define happiness as being wealthy. You can say that it is the epitome of a capitalist state- where even justice is available for sale at the right price. It is unashamedly an imperialist state too and hopes to expand it's influence to the universe- leave alone the planet. All in all, America is a GREAT IDEA. That idea keeps people going.

To me America is the SUPER POWER. To live there must be great but I am sure that there are big down sides to go with that. I am quite happy living in my small village in the South of England and hearing all about America on the news!

ive never been. but it doesnt have a gd reputation elsewhere in the world right now. i can only really base what i say on what i see from tv and such but the main thing i think of is the poverty of many children there in the richest country in the world. i dont know how widespread it is but the poor in america have it harder then anywhere else in the western world. They dont even have free health care in the richest country in the world! they still have a death penalty as well very uncivilised.
