I have a pre teen who is trying to put more physical activity into his day. He has become a little pudgy and would like to slim down. It is cold and nasty outside, and I am trying to think of some indoor activities that will get him off the computer and video games. Something that will get him moving. Any imaginative ideas?

I can think of a million. It depends on if he is by himself or if he has some friends to play with. If he is by himself dropping him off at the local gym is super smart. A lot of kids go to the rec after school and get picked up when it was time for dinner. It can be kind of intimidating at first, cause most those kids are in shape. Hanging out playing basketball, kickball, catch, all sorts of stuff. If he has a nice size room to play in and some friends; Me and my buddy used to play hockey inside using a doorway as the goal and a soft nerfball as a puck. we used little kids plastic hockey sticks and one person would be goalie while the other person shot. We also played a game called "mat-tag". Put a pillow or something soft and small in the corners of a room. The "mats" are base. You get a point for getting from one "mat" to the other. If you are "it" you try to hit the base runners with a nerf ball. If you hit them when they aren't on base you take the base and they are "it". Mat tag is best with at least three people. We had a room that was a big square so we put a mat in all four corners. You can run from any mat to any mat. Sometimes base runners run into each other, and you can push each other off bases so that whoever is "it" can hit you. (The person that's "it" can't push though.) At the end of the day, whoever has the most points wins.

When the weather is bad like it has been, going outside to play football was always really fun too.

Actual I have an idea, he likes video games yes? but you want him to remain active as well right?

He can still be physical active, and still play videogames, at the same time even.

There is a game called:dance dance revolution

It keeps them pretty active. Look into that or other related games.

I started to get chubby at 11 years old, thats the age your son must be. or 12., Don't try to make him slim down, it ain't gonna work, I ate rice and beans for 6 months, and results weren't amazing, he'll lose the weight in his time, like around 15-16 yrs old he'll be slim again.

OUTdoor activities and zero videogames.

if he's too bulgy for his own self esteem swimming is out of the question (but I think that's the best thing, it IS fun)

take advantage of that larger built and do... sumo wrestilgn or something.

ZERO videogames
