how do you get the dns server? i know theres a way where it automatically gets the number but how do you set it up manually?

On the TCP/IP properties page, enter DNS servers at the bottom manually.

It depends. If you are on a network and have an internal DNS server, these numbers are the IP address of that server. If you don't have a server and are just connecting to the internet via a router then your DNS numbers will be the IP address of your router. Typically this is also the same address as the default gateway, which is the internal address of your router. If that doesn't work, login to your router and check the DNS server settings assigned to the router by your ISP. You can assign these manually to your computer, too, but there is no point if you have a router. If none of this works you can use another DNS server other than the one provided by your ISP, such as Charter (pick two)

On the TCP/IP properties page, you can manually enter DNS servers at the bottom. You have to first change the "Obtain DNS server address automatically" option to "Use the following DNS server addresses"
