I think the term "high-maintenance" is misleading. I believe what you are asking is how to take better care of yourself and what products and techniques can you use to achieve this. I'm just going to lay it on the line...
-meditation and self-discovery---know who you are.
-think quality over quantity---I don't understand how people can use cheap makeup. Bare Minerals, for example, improves your skin while on your face. One coat of Chanel nail polish lasts longer than 5 coats of drugstore brands. Better make-up, hair products, and skin products last longer and greatly improve your skin and hair.
-go organic and look up recipes for natural exfoliants.
-Brazilian bikini wax.
-visit your dentist regularly---smiles are important.
-become more organized and prioritize your life.
-pretend the paparazzi are following you everywhere---always look your best.
-high-heels beat sneakers anyday.
-confidence and spirit make a person sexy. If you have this, then you can go in sweats and still make everyone love you.
P.S. I'm not shallow. I had the same problem, only I had no one to ask. I researched everything. And I actually feel happier with my life. It's your body, take care of it.
Oh, and I HIGHLY recommend Heidi Klum's 8 Rules of Model Behavior on the Runway of Life. It will change you.

Spend 1 hour on your hair in the morning, 2 hours w/ your friend picking out your clothes, buy from the most expensive stores, find a few electronics (aside from a sell phone) that you just can't live with out (ex: curling iron)...force your boyfriend to buy you a load of expensive crap and to take you to high end resturants only.
All else fails, look at the 'it' girls on tv.
Disclaimer: Being high maintenance will mean nobody will like you. However, nobody's going to say it to your face so I'm telling you now that you'll be hated. (not hated on...there's a difference). Also, don't expect ppl to think you're smart either.

In modern American slang, a person is described as high-maintenance if they require 'a lot of attention in order to function normally'. The slang definition of high-maintenance is most often used to describe a person who requires a lot of attention to his or her appearance. The term is not necessarily gender-specific, though it is often used to refer to attractive women.
Examples of high-maintenance behavior:
Having frequent professional cosmetic consultations, such as hair-dressing and manicures
Excessive vanity spending
Attention craving
Spending an hour in front of the mirror with a hair iron to flatten perfectly straight hair.
Alternatively, the term can refer to someone who requires a high emotional investment from their romantic or familial partner. Also, someone who spends a substantial amount of money or time on their appearance could be referred to as high-maintenance.
The term is not always considered derogatory, and some are self-proclaimed high-maintenance people.

Why in the world would you want to be high maintainence? That is sooooo expensive!! Accentuate your beauty with simple things--it will go alot further in the long run than spending your money on this that and the next thing as it comes along and goes out quicker thaan you can buy it and impliment into your wardrobe. Unless you have money to burn and/or someone to pamper you, don't go there.
