My suggestion is to have a signed and dated document by you (even if it's just a short note) granting this person permission to sign a contract for you. Give them a copy and you keep a copy for your records in case this is ever contested. Oral permissions tend to be a little sticky since there is no tangible proof it ever happened. Never hurts to cover your bases in the event "just in case" ever happens.
