I think his whole career has been incredible, but the last 10 years or so have been absolutely fantastic!
Caddyshack, Where the Buffalo Roam, Groundhog Day, Ed Wood were all brilliant, but since the Wes Anderson team-up, he has turned out a great performance EVERY single time.

Definately the vintage Caddyshack/Meatballs/Stripes era. This was the golden age of Bill Murray (it just doesn't matter...). After Ghostbusters, the only other good Bill Murray movies were Groundhog Day and What About Bob. I did really enjoy Lost in Translation, but I miss the one-liners and the Belushi-esque deadpan glances toward the camera.

My fave Bill Murray flicks are Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day. He's taking more serious roles now like Lost in Translation which got him an Oscar nomination. But if you say Bill Murray, his early stuff comes to mind. But I do prefer the older Bill too.

Not a big Bill Murray fan. I liked him in Curly Sue, that was a cute movie, though. I've only seen Caddyshack besides that. I think he is kind of washed up, now.

I've been thinking about this lately.
While I still really enjoy his newer, dark comedy phase, my favorite Bill Murray performance is in Little Shop of Horrors, surprisingly.
I pee my pants everytime I watch his scene.
I think I'd have to agree with you, though. He is a different kind of funny now, a more mature funny. And I love Rushmore.
Soooo...to make an already long answer short....the phase he is in now.

Have to go with the outwardly funny Bill Murray - What About Bob? is a classic and Stripes makes me laugh every time.

It's hard to choose between them. "Stripes" is one of my all-time favorite comedies, but there's no doubt that he has become more mature, more serious, and more subtle with the passage of time.
Sort of makes you wonder what'll come NEXT, doesn't it?
