I find things all the time (cell phones, keys, glasses, wallets ect.) and always return them. If you're not sure where to turn to when there is no ID or anything you just leave your phone number with someone at the place where you found it. If they call you have them answer a few questions about the item, that way you know it's the rightful owner. It's a good feeling to have done it right and if you do good things, good things will happen to you.

I returned some change to the person in front of me at the self checkout yesterday. It wasn't much but it wasn't mine and it's the right thing to do. :)

By the way, the people who say that it's ok to keep because it probably belonged to a rich person... I don't think so. They have credit cards in their wallets not tons of cash.
People who have just cashed their paycheck have a lot of cash in their wallet and those people wouldn't go cash it right away if they didn't desperately needed it.
So next time you find something, I hope you think twice about keeping it.

I'm sure you would be happy to get yours back.

I would hand it in , to the police ;

they would give me a receipt
, if it was not re-claimed, within 3 months .
. i could then claim the money .
.
If it is reclaimed by the legitimate owner
( he/she would need, to prove, that the money is there's , and how they came by it . )
I would still be entitled , to a percentage of the money

should the money , be proved to have been taken in a robbery ,
( marked notes , from a bank or shop etc.)
It will be kept as evidence , until there is a conviction
After the court case,
The money Will be , returned to the rightful owner ,
a percentage ,will be paid to the finder .

ME!!!! :)

The option of 'pocketing '' the money , however tempting ,
is fraught with the guilt .and danger, of being found out .

You could be charged with theft,
and get a criminal record.,( stealing by finding )

the original owners of the money ,
may be desperate criminals ,ready to do you serious harm

Best option is;
to hand the money ,in to the police
(keep the receipt.)
and await events , with a clear conscience.

By law, I would put an ad in the newspaper under Lost and Found, only mentioning the wallet but not the description or contents. After 30 days with no response I think it is legally yours.

It would eat me alive to not turn it in! The guilt.......oh man. The thing is, if someone lost a wallet with that much but had no form of id then chances are they got it in an illegal way. So, I'd turn it in and after 30 days if no one claims it then it's yours! Plus you'll feel better about doing the right thing.

Take Care,
Tori

If I found that and there was no way of getting the person's ID, I'd give the money to a good cause. I don't think I could keep it, because it's not mine and it wouldn't bring me any joy, only heartship.Giving it to someone in need would be fulfilling.

Oh yes I would.... I did.... Found a wallet on the bus with plenty money in it - I'd never seen so much in a wallet, but I gave it up. It didn't cross my mind to keep it.

Yes, because i lost a wallet once & thankfully the person who found it handed it in to the shop where he found it outside. SO i shall always do the same

Yes, I would hand it in. If it is not claimed, then I would get to keep it. I would not enjoy spending it if I had kept it, it could be someone's life savings, or they could have just sold something for cash.

If it were obtained illegally, they would not go to the police to claim it!

Years ago, a man from Hong Kong handed in a bag with £250k in it and it was not claimed, so it was handed back to him.

Yes I would hand it in. I always try to treat others as I would like to be treated. If you give the police your name etc and it is not claimed within a certain amount of time, you can claim it yourself. Then i would claim it, i couldnt have it on my conscience that I had taken sum1s savings etc. and if I lost that sort of money I would be devestated

I would say yes at this moment because it is not my money-someone lost it and would be very worried about it. Also my conscience would bother me a great deal so it would be taken to the nearest police station. However until it happens one never knows what the reaction would be
