Wow I thought some of the people on this site might enjoy a movie that doesn't have a 100 million dollar budget but oh well...The soundtrack alone has this movie in the top 25. Im sure if steven spielburg put millions into making this movie then you would all love it. Now go buy another groundbreaking ashley simpson cd and put that in your top 25. LOL

The majority of the people that answered this question are ridiculous. Donnie Darko has an originality to it that many films these days lack. Plus, the plot is deep enough that it leaves you thinking about it for days. Critics and AFI often go with safe "artistic" choices that no one really watches...like Citizen Kane and Raging Bull. While the filmmakers might have done a great job making these films, they are PAINFULLY boring to the normal movie-going audience. Donnie Darko is neither of those things. What starts out as a movie that you think is dealing with a mental disease (i.e. schizophrenia) ends up being a twisted take on time travel. It is definitely in the top five on my list and would be on more people top list as well if they paused and gave it the recollection it deserves.

I agree with the person who asked this question and T rav above me. This movie is groundbreaking and phenomenal. I think anyone who is too lazy to even begin to TRY to understand this movie is lazy and elitist. It touches on the mind-boggling concept of time travel without spoon feeding us all the answers. It allows us interpret it in our own ways. I'm glad Jake Gyllenhall is still doing less traditional movies, with the exception of The Day After Tomorrow, which was still decent in its own right. Donnie Darko is definitely in my top 10, if not top 5. It's a masterpiece.

I thought it was a decent movie, definately not one of the top movies of all time, those movies are left for Shawshake Redemption, Schindler's List, Good Will Hunting, Citizen Kane, It's a Wonderful Life, etc...

It's definately worth watching, perhaps even worth buying, great song by Gary Jules too....then that stupid Gears of War game had it as a commercial....I am glad ppl recognize his work more now, but it fit more into the movie than the game.

You really gotta be joking, right? Donnie Darko. With all the great films out there, you want to include a movie that has a talking bunny in it. sounds like to me we could do a movie about you that could be one of the greatest ever too. It would be called Return of Donnie Retard-o

While it was okay, it is not even in my top 100! It's number 106 on the IMDb top 250 so they also agreed. Plus it flopped box office wise.

if speilberg made this movie it would not be dark,,, there would be a lot of flash, lights and overuse of fancy sopecial effects, that ruin most of his movies,,, as for one of the best,,, it does not rate up theree on my top 100, even though I keep watching it to figure it out and why it is some kind of "cult classic"
