ok I need to find an African-American person who fought for African-American rights. But I also need this person to have lost his freedom while fighting for the freedom of others. Wether they went to jail or something as long as they sacrificed their freedom at one point. Thanks!

p.s. I already am using Prudence Crandell and James Meredith so please someone different! Thanks!

All major activists during the 60's got jailed. MLK, Andrew Young, Jesse Jackson etc. Lesser known is Medgar Evers, Assata Shakur, Eldridge Cleaver. Another interesting one is Geronimo Pratt. Actually he was released and won a 5 million dollar settlement against the court system for wrongful imprisonment. He was also one of the first court cases Johnny Cochran handled.

There are some Black Panther members, Huey Newton to name one. But you can also go with Mumia Abu Jamaal. In the case for ethnic studies and outreach to impoverished communities you can look up the history of EOP and Ethnic Studies at the California State University, Northridge. There is also a documentary on this call Storm at Valley State.
