I am 18. I am about to shave my pubic area for the first time...and I think all of it!!! yikes! I have trimmed, obviously, with scissors and all, but never put a razor this close to my intimate are. :) (I never even put my hands down there for anything, ya know...which is a totally different topic. Open to suggestions there as well) Do any girls have any suggestions on how to shave it or the best way? Should I shave it ALL or not? What are the benefits of it being smooth down there? I know a wax would be the way to get it the smoothest, but I'm a prude and not ready to expose myself like that to someone else yet.

Thanks!
Jamie

Trim with scissors first, then get plenty of shaving cream and use a clean new razor. Take your time, do not rush yourself...it will only make you cut yourself! There are creams and ointments to prevent bumps, but if you follow my tips you probably won't need that. Good luck!

Maybe it's because of the way I was brought up, but I always make sure I'm bare-down-there. Yes, waxing is the best hair-removal for the bikini area, but not everyone has a high tolerance for pain. I didn't know what I was missing until I shaved my entire area. It is so much easier to keep clean and maintain. Plus, it makes you feel sensual and exotic.

The first time I used a depilatory gel, because I wasn't ready to put a razor on sensitive skin. What you do is scissor it until it is less than an inch long. Then apply the dilatory gel and wait 15 minutes. Wipe off with warm cloth and your done.

After getting use to having a smooth surface (believe me it takes some getting use to) you can start maintaining it with a razor.

When you shave for the first time, you want to make sure you've been in the shower/bath for awhile. This opens your pores and softens the hair. Apply a thick layer of sensitive shaving cream to the entire area. Go with the hair! This isn't like shaving your legs! Pay attention to detail and make sure you have gotten all the hairs. It look funky when you leave patches. After you have shaved all of it off, you may begin to go against the grain for a smoother feel.

Now, razor bumps, redness, and occasionally ingrown hair is normal. They have creams to soothe the itching and red bumps. I myself never had the itching, but I heard it can be really bothersome. Trust me, after the scary part is over, you won't be able to imagine having hair there again.

I hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions.

I prefer waxing (Brazilian style) because it takes much more time for the hair to grow back and zero razor irritation and ingrown hairs aren't nearly the problem they are with shaving. I know though...you have to expose your self to a stranger...however, if you go to a gynecologist this shouldn't be a big deal.

Now, about shaivng, it's always said to shave in the direction of hair growth rather than against, exfoliate, you may want to get a tube of bikini zone gel or something like that after. They do make shave creams/gels specifically for the bikini area and underarms and some razors may be better than others (and obviously don't use a dull one).

Everyone is pretty much different. Some teenagers shave down there, some don't. In addition, some guys don't mind hair down there, others are extremely turned on by hairless vagina areas, for some reason. If you're looking for the answer to what would be the most acceptable or popular, there isn't an answer.

When I shaved mine for the first time, it was all good...until the hair started to grow back!!! It itched very intensely for a few days. I had to leave every class for the most of the week to go to the bathroom and scratch. Yikes!!! That was back in middle school. I'll NEVER do that again. Waxing is the better choice, but if you really wanna do it yourself, then go on. But I wouldn't recommend it. The only way you'll know for sure is if you try it yourself and see how YOU feel. Good luck with that.

You can easily shave it all off with the Seiko Cleancut Shaver. Be sure to get some hydrocortisone cream to stop itching. It might itch really bad because you have never shaved before. I also recommend Bikini Zone cream. You will feel a lot better without all the hair, and you will probably keep it shaved all the time. Let me repeat myself. Don't just shave it all off if you don't have anything to put on it later. You might itch really bad, and your skin might break out and cause a rash.

You probally heard many horror stories regarding shaving your pubic. I have tried everything and the best is use a good trimmer to trim the BUSH then use a good "personal shaver" to shave the fine stubble after the bush has been trimmed. I found a great source for a tutorial on how to get a safe personal shave. Worked for me and my BF!!

I wax, not everything, but I make a little landing strip down there...u know, make it pretty. Shaving for me just make stubble and red bumps and yuk. Waxing will give u red bumps and irritation for a bit, but u can get this stuff called azulene oil, that softens the skin, gets rid of any remaining wax, and smooths red bumps.
I suggest by the pre-waxed strips that you just hold in your hand for a few seconds to warm up, then u apply it, then tear off. Read directions carefully and follow them. I swear by those things.

MAKE SURE that you exfoliate the are EVERY day in the shower to avoid ingrown hairs. TRUST ME, i've had them down there, and its not pretty. If you just exfoliate every, then apply the azulene oil, or a sensitive, fragrance free lotion, you'll be pretty down there always.

Jamie,

Why bother shaving if youre not even sexually active yet? You dont even touch yourself like that - so why bother shaving??

There really is no benefit of being smooth down there - unless youre sexually active. And, even if you are, being hairless actually makes sex harder, as the hair is evolved to hold onto moisture, making sure you stay lubricated.
