Seriously? ha ha ha ha, thats the funniest thing I have ever heard...
Well i hope the kid grows up in goth circles, otherwise its f**ked.
Why cant she pick a name that wont cause him to be an outcast and potential serial killer! lol.... its got nothing to do with luck, thats a societal fact!

well, i think it's a fine name. i don't think it'll bring bad luck because Lucifer is a Christian thing. and it is after all just a name and if she doesn't think it'll bring bad luck than it shouldn't. But, as a name to grow up with this child may get some teasing but he shouldn't let it affect him. Talk to your sister about how you feel nervous about this name but i truly don't believe a name can bring bad luck if used in good reason.

It should not bring bad luck on the baby, as the parents chose the name based upon a parent's preference. That said, the baby may get treated differently because of its name (most likely it will just get remarks such as cool name!)
I think that if she wants to name the baby that, then it is up to her. You just just be supportive of her, as you seem to be.
You must remember of course, that it is only the Christian faith that has an negative connotations of the name lucifer

Actually Lucifer means bearer of light. The Christian figure of Lucifer was later called Satan which means adversary. Like the people before me said, it's just a name. Now, it may influence the baby as he/she grows because people take the negative conotation of Lucifer in mind, and might treat him/her with that idea. In any case, your sister is naming the baby after an angel; now if she named him/her Satan, that will be a completely different story.

Definitely tell your sister your concerns. Aside from the child's early life, a name CAN make a difference in his adult life as well depending on his occupation. For example, say you were hiring a lawyer and had only to choose from - Candy and Elizabeth. Who would you contact first?
Good luck!

You should try to explain to her that it is probably not the best name to chose, and it is kind of a long name, too. I think you should try to convince her to choose a different name for her baby. It is probably a bad name to grow up with and other children might make fun of that name.

Hard to say if I buy it or not. I am a dark person but I would avoid names like that. She can do whats she wants though, she will just have to accept the consequences

For one that's a wonderful name. That's my
half-brother's name and he's russian/german. Even though the name Lucifer got itself a bad reputation its still just a name! I would tell her that its fine to name her baby that.

yes you should very well tell her not too. that might hurt the self esteem of the child when it is growing up. about that bad luck thing, I am not sure if that will happen. BUT for the safe side, CHANGE the name.
Happy Mardi Gras Day!

Technically "Lucifer" means "Bearer of Light", but there are so many negative connotations with this name. I would tell her not to name him that, how about a similar name without the negativity surrounding it , like Lucien, or Lucius?
