Banks don't usually look at your credit score before allowing you to open a checking or savings account. Because they are not allowing you to purchase anything on credit (in other words the money needs to already be in your account before you can spend it), you shouldn't have any problems. Try Commerce Bank. And if you are looking to build up your credit, get a secured credit card through something like Orchard Bank. You need good credit to do anything these days, so it really is in your best interest to start fixing it!
Good luck.

Even if you can't get a current account with a debit card, EVERY bank offers a basic bank account. They're not advertised as much because the banks can't make any money off them!
A BBA doesn't allow overdraft facilities, but you can have your wages/salary paid into them and you can also set up standing orders and direct debit instructions. Depending on the bank, you'll also get either a cash card or a Visa Electron card.

An option might be a stored-value, prepaid, or reloadable Visa or MasterCard. When I was on ChexSystem's "Death Row", I used one (Wired Plastic) that worked just as well as any checking account that I had. I had my check direct deposited, and was able to reload it using Western Union, MoneyGram, and a couple of other places. making it real convenient. I was finally able to get a regular checking and savings account through Chase, but I still keep it as another means for socking away cash. There's a lot out there I posted links to several, I'm familiar with Wired Plastic the best.

Niax,
Credit card judgements and credit have nothing to do with opening a checking account, unless you got entered into ChexSystems.
In other words, ChexSystems will prevent you from getting a checking account, not bad credit.
