Why think of the past? Where is that going to get you in life? I think if you worry about the past you have no room for the future and the possibilities that lie before you. If you keep living in the past you can miss opportunities that are right in front of you. Why don't you think about what can be right now, instead of what could have been. I used to think about the past, however I have found it has gotten me nowhere in life. It has only made me miserable and held me back from the amazing things I can do in life right this second.

Human beings put much ado on "right" or "wrong." If you are the kind of person who spends more time than "average" contemplating the branches of the past, then it is in your nature to do so. There is no right or wrong to it.
And the past will ALWAYS affect the present since they are one and the same thing, and not separated by anything other than perspective. The past IS the present.
The difference is in how you choose to interpret and actualize your past experiences in the present. There is no "getting over it" so to speak. Only through contemplation of the "past" can we develop the ability to make more salient choices in the present.
Keep past learning experiences in mind as you maintain your attention on the now. Stay frosty contemplator. :)

There's nothing wrong with thinking of the past, as long as it doesn't interfere with your present or your future. I find myself having nice, nostalgic memories from time to time. I also wonder what might have been if my life had taken another direction. However, I wouldn't change anything. You have to find happiness in who you are now, no regrets.

Write it down on a piece of paper, think about why you took the path that you did, be thankful for the lessoned you learned on the journey, and burn it. Once it's burned you can move on with being happy with who you are, or making the changes that you want to make to become the person you want to be.
If you don't like you, why should any one else? Love yourself first, everything else will fall into place.

No it's not wrong to think of what might have been. Just don't dwell on it that is wrong & can be damaging.
