Will this bring bad luck to the baby and do you think the name in general is just wrong for a kid to grow up with?

Should I tell her not to? What are your opinions?

No, it's not gonna bring the kid bad luck other than the fact that kids and people growing up are going to make fun of him and that will be hell for him.
Tell her not to.. I hate when people try to name their kids some unique uncommon name just for fun. The kid's a person and has to live with the name, give him a break.

Personally I would state your opinion to her, without getting nasty about it, just say you really do think it's unfair on the child and he could get teased at school, or worse still by over zealous Christians who will think he *is* the devil! But don't just tell her outright not to do it, just say this is your opinion and you respect it is her and the fathers decision.

I would then suggest that perhaps they pick a fairly normal middle name, so that he at least has a choice of names to use when he is growing up, without having to change his name entirely or rely on a nick name.

Perhaps she might consider Lucipher as a middle name.

At the end of the day though he is their child not yours and it's up to them. There are worse names to be had, such as Fifi Trixibelle and Peaches Honeyblossom Geldof, Zowie Bowie and Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence, Blue Angel "The Edge" (U2) to name but a few... At least Lucipher is a fairly normal name!

As for bringing the child bad luck, no, that's not going to happen, you make your own luck in life, your name has nothing to do with it :)

I think it's kind of cute, if you take out the connotations and see it just as a name (and I am a Christian). In it's original spelling it is latin for "bringer of light", in the same way that Lucie and Lucian mean "light".

Isn't Lucipher the name of the cat in Cinderella?

That should be good enough evidence to stop her!

And if that isn't the cats name, umm....smack her? No, kidding, ermm tell her how that poor kid will grow up! How would she like to see her son get bullied on a daily basis?

If nothing stops her, help pick out the middle name and call him by that!

Good Luck!

If she wants to do it, let her do it.

The people Lucipher meets when he grows up should judge his personality, not his name, otherwise he shouldn't even be around them.
For people who's nonreligious, I think they would, like I, find it a fantastic name. (I'm not evil thank you) Besides, if his name does cause some disturbances, he could always have his name listed as a nickname, such as Luke.

People need to learn that a person's character dominates whatever other traits or labels a person has.

Doesn't sound so bad...unless you're a faithful Christian.

As a parent, the most irritating thing is being given opinions and advice on names. When I had my kid, my wife and I wouldn't tell anyone cuz we didn't really care what other people thought. The name was for us and our baby. That said, I do have one rule: if you choose to go with a unique first name, give the kid a chance and give them a very generic middle name. That way if they aren't down with it when they get older, they can choose to go by their middle name. Perhaps you could offer that advice to your sister...

I would bring up your concerns to her but in a nice non-pushy kind of way. In the end no matter what anyone says to her she is going to name her baby what she wants so there is no reason in getting her pissed off at you. Try suggesting different names..One i found was Lucian (Lucien) or Luther. Good Luck

I don't think it should bring bad luck, but it might bring a lot of teasing. Kids these days can be brutal. Maybe you could try to suggest Lucas, Lucian, Lucious, or something like that.

I would mention it. She has to consider that this baby is eventually going to be a man or woman, and with that MAY come some spiritual beliefs that would contradict with this name. No matter the parent's spiritual beliefs, hopefully she will be open minded enough to want to give him or her the freedom of religion to choose what spiritual beliefs he or she feels connected to. She wouldn't name a kid GOD, or BUDDHA...I mean, c'mon. There are just some things you don't do. Not to mention, if it's a man, the kids will call him Lucy. (Lucipher was my husband's childhood cat's name...it was eventually shortened to Lucy!)

I don't think there is anything wrong with it, if it wasn't associated with something evil in some peoples eyes it would be a cool name. (and thast only SOME peoples eyes, different cultures and religions have no association to the name.)

I doubt the name will bring bad luck, there are lots of people named jesus and it doesn't bring them good luck :P

But it might make for a good joke though if you could get a jesus and lucifer to sit down and play chess together.

Seriously though I don't think its as bad as naming your child DICK, or after an alcoholic drink like some parents have done. :(

My brother put on his son's birth certificate "Flash" as his son's secondary middle name. We threatened to name our third child "Captain Jack Sparrow" (Luckily, we had a girl.)

The name Lucipher actually means "Morning Star" and "Light", so I see nothing wrong with it except that its a thumb in the face of religious people.
