What I usually do is to start off with 0.5% for the small and 1% for the big blind to start - so with 1000 chips the blinds are 5 and 10, then double up every 6 hands, so everyone has 6 blinds at this level then double to 1% and 2% (If there are 9 people playing a max of 54 flops)

This is a great way of playing because instead of counting on the time, if lots of people go out early on the blinds go up quicker.

Don't forget the essence to a good poker night - plenty of beer! ;)

i would go with the accepted blind structure which is a small blind a big blind and if you wanted to last a long time make the blinds like 1/40 of what people are bringing dont make it a tournament just keep it a cash game

i would say if you want it to last a few hours you should give everyone about 50x the BB to start and increase them every 15-20 minutes...i prefer timed levels because if lots of players happen to go out early, the winner will be determined by skill, since there are less hands played all-in before the flop when the blinds are smaller
